Dark Red Scarf & Maroon Tote Bag!

Overview

For the scarf, I really wanted to make a red scarf because...

THE ICONIC RED TAYLOR SWIFT SCARF

Her's was not crocheted but still........ it's still a red scarf!

For the bag, I just wanted to make something that was not a scarf hehe. I really enjoyed making it!

Materials used

Bright Red Scarf

  • 15 mm hook (recommended a small hook!!)
  • "Just Yarn" Bright Red-Colored yarn
  • Scissors (for any cutting

In terms of a tutorial, I free-handed it but used Tik Tok to teach me how to triple crochet (online tutorial). I started off by making a slip knot and chaining either 14 (for some reason, triple crocheting made the scarf wider so I made the base smaller than the sage green scarf and it was still the same width at the end), chain three to flip over and triple crochet into the third chain (keeping in mind to crochet the same amount of stitches in the base chain), and repeat until desired length (or for me, when the yarn ran out!!) *

Maroon Tote Bag

  • 15 mm hook (recommended a medium hook!!)
  • Georgia's yarn...
  • Scissors (for any cutting)
  • Optional: Crochet marker clips

For the tutorial, I used the Handmade by Mai tutorial (great one to follow along to!!) Halfway throughout the bag, I cut the yarn and decided to make the strap so I had enough yarn to make it. I made it a bit too long (at the moment I didn't realize the yarn would stretch), but it's ok (it just hangs low.) After I made the strap to my desired length, I tied the remaining yarn to the yarn hanging off the bag I cut earlier, and continued the bag until I ran out of yarn. I attatched the straps on separately.

Final Review

This project gets...

☆☆☆☆ 4 STARS!!!!!

I actually really like the scarf and the color (RED SCARF TAYLOR SWIFT!!!!!) but it is a bit itchy. I still wear it, and red goes with a lot of my outfit combos. The only thing I didn't like was how stretchy the chains/rows are. I think the hook might have played a role in it, but there are holes (like a pattern, it's not ugly)

The Maroon Tote-Bag gets...

☆☆☆ 3 STARS!!!!!

I really enjoyed the project, more so, the end result. Was it extremely time-consuming? Yes. But was it worth it? YES! It keeps me warm, it's super stylish (I have paired it with many color combos and different outfits it never misses), and it's soft and comfy. I don't think I'll use this because the yarn is too soft and unstable, but I like it!

Final Verdict- "Would make the bag again but with more stable and strong yarn. In terms of the scarf, I would maybe use a different stitch pattern!"

Things to keep in mind for the future

I have a few complaints, but nothing to serious. These are just things to have in mind for my next project, especially since as I write this, I am making a VERY big project... stay tuned! *wink wink*

Pros

For the scarf, I liked the length of the scarf. I think the fact that I was using triple crochet helped stretch out the scarf. I finished it much quicker than the sage green single crochet scarf!

For the bag, it made me realize how much I enjoy half double crochet. I really like how the bag part turned out.

Cons

For the scarf, I didn't like the gaps in between the stitches. The scarf is a bit scratchy, which is odd because I have used this kind of yarn before.

For the bag, definitely forgetting to make the strap shorter than I made it. Next time I make a bag, I will remember to make the strap shorter because it stretches. I also did not like how tangled the yarn was, but it wasn't really my fault because the yarn came tangled.

These two projects made me realize the importance of washing your creations when you finish the project. WASH THEM!

I hope you enjoyed the blog post!
