Heart Garland

Overview

@elios.dad on TikTok

One influencer I have been following for quite a bit is Sarah (@elios.dad on TikTok) because I am OBSESSED with her aesthetic. It was no surprise that when I began thinking of dorm decor, I went straight to their account and reviewed their room and dorm tutorial. When I came across this specific frame in her dorm tour video, I KNEW I had to make the garland.

Going straight to work, I picked up every spool of yarn I had and started making hearts. It turned out super cute and was fairly easy (besides the magic rings......... I do NOT like magic rings...)

I think there's something special about crocheting things like room decor. It feels much more personalized, and every time I see the garland I feel so much pride.

Feel free to let your creativity run wild when making garlands. As you will read in this blog, I came up with my own steps along the way and adjusted the stitches and patterns I used. Explore with shapes, create new patterns, and have fun with it!!

Materials used

Feel free to rearrange hearts for a cute color scheme!

This project was made using very few materials, including"

  • 5.5 mm hook
  • "I Love This Yarn" yarn (a range of colors- I used lilac, maroon, light blue, red, navy, beige, and pink)
  • Scissors (for any cutting)

In terms of a tutorial, I used several tutorials, including this one for the small hearts and this one for the medium and big hearts. I ended up writing the pattern out but I recommend watching the videos because this is lowkey confusing, but I want to include it because yolo:

**The patterns build off one another**

Small

Large

*NO SLIP STITCH IN MEDIUM IF LARGE*

1 sc in first stitch; 1 sc; 1 sc; 2 dc in the next eight stitches; 1 dc in the next six stitches; POINT OF HEART- 1 dc, 1 treble crochet, 1 dc; 1 dc in the next six stitches; 2 dc in the next eight stitches; 1 sc; 1 sc; 1 sc in last stitch

Attaching the hearts to the garland

To get the hearts onto the string, I sewed the middle area of the hearts onto the string. I went over the stitches a couple times to ensure the hearts were secured. Keep in mind what side you put the hearts on and to straighten out the garland before attaching another heart so you don't get them on different sides (if this makes sense!)

Final Review

This project gets...

☆☆☆☆☆ 5 STARS!!!!!

It is absolutely such a cute item to add to spruce up any area. You can also adjust the length based on the area you're filling up as well as the shape that you choose.

Final Verdict- "YES. So cute!"

Things to keep in mind for the future

This project has only one critique, but nothing harsh.

Pros

I was a bit confused at the beginning because of the magic circles and different stitches, but once I caught on it was super easy. I love it in my roomie and I's dorm, and would definitely make another one for another space.

Cons

If I had known the full layout of the dorm, I would have made the garland longer because it is a bit small. Other than that, this was such a fun project that literally took me one day. So easy, so cute, so slay.

I hope you enjoyed the blog post!
